The final concert of the 67th Tadeusz Baird Competition for Young Composers will take place on May 28, 202, at 6.00 pm at the Władysław Szpilman Polish Radio Concert Studio, located at 77/85 Niepodległości Avenue (entrance from Niepodległości Avenue and/or Modzelewskiego Street). Admission is free!
The Tadeusz Baird Competition for Young Composers is organized annually by the Polish Composers' Union. The main idea behind the competition is to inspire young creators to draw upon the values present in the composer’s works through various approaches in their chamber music compositions. The competition consists of two stages. The pieces qualified by the jury for the second one will be performed during the final concert; subsequently, the jury's final verdict will be announced, and the names of the laureates will be revealed.
The subject of the 2025 Competition was a song (or a song cycle) for soprano or tenor and piano or accordion. In connection with last year's centenary of the Polish Composers' Union, the Polish-language text was required to originate from the interwar period (1918–1939).
On May 28, the following pieces will be performed:
The compositions will be interpreted by soprano Joanna Freszel (Sześć pocałunków, TAKTY i futurakty), soprano Ewa Leszczyńska (W pejzażu, Niebieskie Migdały, Dialogi I), baritone Bartosz Lisik, pianist Bartłomiej Wezner, and accordionist Iwo Jedynecki.
This year’s jury consists of Paulina Łuciuk-Frigatti (chairwoman), Zbigniew Bargielski, Ewa Fabiańska-Jelińska, Michał Moc, and Wojciech Widłak.
The Tadeusz Baird Prize amounts to PLN 10,000. Additionally, the jury may award two honorable mentions (hotel accommodation and a free pass to all concerts of the International Festival of Contemporary Music "Warsaw Autumn"), funded by the main board of the Polish Composers' Union.
The concert is organized by the Polish Composers' Union in cooperation with Polish Radio Program 2, with financial support from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage within the Culture Promotion Fund ("Music" program, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance).
