Gdańsk | 2nd Open Performance, Composition and Arrangment for Carillon Masterclass

POLMICThe Second Open Masterclass on Performing, Composing and Arranging for Carillon will be held on the 17-19.11.2022 in Gdańsk (Poland) by Eddy Mariën from Royal Carillon School Jef Denyn Mechelen (Belgium), Katarzyna Kwiecień-Długosz (PhD, Assoc. Prof.) from the University of Zielona Góra, Monika Kaźmierczak (PhD) and Kamil Cieślik (MA) from the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk.

The masterclass will be held in the tower of St. Catharine Church in Gdańsk (ul. Profesorska 3), the tower of the Main Town Hall in Gdańsk (ul. Długa 46), and at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, room 413 (the yellow building) and room 414 (the red building).

The programme of the course encompasses: the presentation of the carillons of the St. Catherine Church and the Main Town Hall, carillon for advanced performers (class with Eddy Mariën) and for beginners (class with Monika Kaźmierczak), individual work of the participants with appointments for a consultation. In the theoretical part of the course for composers Eddy Mariën, Katarzyna Kwiecień-Długosz and Kamil Cieślik will reveal the arcana of composing and arranging for carillon.

Moreover, two weekly carillon concerts will take place:

  • 18.11, 11:00 am, St. Catherine Church / Concert by Eddy Mariën with “Music of the Mechelen circle”, preceded by artists’ presentation preface on the concert.
  • 20.11, 12:05 am, Main Town Hall / Concert by Eddy Mariën and Monika Kaźmierczak with compositions by D. Przybylski, L. Narvillaite, K. Kwiecień-Długosz, M. Vanden Gheyn. Before the concert Eddy Mariën, Monika Kaźmierczak and  Katarzyna Kwiecień-Długosz will hold a presentation „About composing for a meantone carillon from the point of view of the performer and the composer”.
