Media patronage: Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC
The 8th Festival of Contemporary Music ‘New Waves’, organized by the Gdańsk Branch of the Polish Composers' Union and the ‘Sinfonietta Pomerania’ Foundation, will take place in Gdańsk on November 19-26, 2022. Admission is free!
Of particular importance in the programme of this year's festival are works that are an expression of protest against the war in Ukraine and other conflicts, forced emigration, as well as the degradation of the natural environment. The modern world terrifies both older artists and the youngest, who are just making their debut in the artistic field and in public discourse. They declare their attitudes by various means, reaching both to the classical potential of music as a speech of sounds, as well as to newer methods related to the use of electronics or referring to the soundscape technique, i.e. including the sounds of the surrounding world in the composition.
Premieres of compositions by Andrzej Dziadek (Festival Director), Adam Diesner, Tadeusz Dixa, Piotr Kasiłowski, Marcin Kopczyński, Jakub Pawlak, Adam Dzieżyk, Szymon Wieczorek, Anna Janowicz, Piotr Jędrzejczyk, Krzysztof Falkowski, Kamil Cieślik and Szymon Kusior will be presented.
Co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund as part of the ‘Music’ programme implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance. Co-financed by the City of Gdańsk. Carried out with the funds of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.
