The Opening Ceremony of St. Dominic’s Fair will take place on 28th July 2018 at noon in the Artus Manor House in Toruń. It will feature the bugle call written especialy for the occasion by Paweł Hulisz.
The opening ceremony refers to the fifteenth-century figures of city and tower "squeaks", whose duty was to warn, greet distinguished guests with a fanfare and announce the closing of the city gates. The town musician was also a setter of the tower carillon. Since the Gdansk City Council has been hiring musicians, the solemn opening and closing of the Fair is accompanied by music.
The grand opening of St. Dominic’s Fair will feature a special bugle-call based on Gdańsk music, played by trumpeters Tubicinatores Gedanenses and town hall carillon (Monika Kazmierczak). The sixteen trumpeters will be placed in the windows and on the roof of the Artus Manor House. Since St. Dominic’s Fair celebrates 758th anniversary this year, this bugle call is composed of 758 notes. The whole trick is that every year the next note is added, so the bugle-call "grows old" together with the Fair.
