Gold “Gloria Artis” Medals Awarded to Adam Sławiński and Krzysztof Baculewski!
On 11 December 2025, a ceremony for the presentation of the Gold Medals for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis took place at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Among the award recipients were composers Krzysztof Baculewski and Adam Sławiński, who were honored upon the nomination of the Polish Composers’ Union.
Adam Sławiński, who turned 90 this year, is one of the most highly regarded Polish composers of classical, film, and popular music. He has written numerous symphonic and experimental works, as well as approximately 70 songs composed for Agnieszka Osiecka’s television series Singing Letters, music for Television Theatre productions, and for such television series as The Peasants (Chłopi) and The Actress (Komediantka). Jazz and music journalism also played an important role in his career. In 1974–75 he served as Deputy Music Director of Polish Radio, and in 1990–91 as Director of Polish Radio Programme Two. In the years 1985–91 and 2001–03 he served on the governing bodies of the Polish Composers’ Union, holding positions including Treasurer, Secretary, and Vice President of the Main Board. From 2008 to 2011 he was President of the Polish Society for Contemporary Music.
Composer and music theorist Krzysztof Baculewski has been a lecturer at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw (now the Chopin University of Music) since 1982. Since 1986, he has been a member of the Repertoire Committee of the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music. His works have been performed not only in Poland but also abroad—in most European countries, as well as in the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Lima, and Mexico. From 2003 to 2013 he served as President of the Concert spirituel Foundation. He was a founding member and Secretary of the first Board of the Polish Society for Contemporary Music. He is also a member of ZAiKS and the Polish Composers’ Union, in which he has served several times on the Main Board, as Treasurer, and as Vice President.
Congratulations!
