The Piotr Orawski Foundation has prepared another audio-video production of Polish piano trios. This time, it features two of the most representative Polish chamber works from the 20th century – Piano Trios by Andrzej Panufnik and Mieczysław Weinberg. The recordings are available on the Piotr Orawski Foundation's YouTube channel.
Both composers share a very similar history: after World War II, they spent most of their lives in exile. Panufnik in Great Britain and Weinberg in the Soviet Union. They met in Warsaw where in 1936 Mieczysław Weinberg, as pianist, premiered Panufnik's Trio. Both works have been recorded by the Herbert Piano Trio at the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music in Lusławice; the audio was recorded by Ewa Guziołek-Tubelewicz and the video by Grzegorz Klimczak (B&B records).
The recordings are complemented by commentary by musicologist Dr. Aleksander Laskowski, who provides context for these works and biographies of the composers. The project partner is the Mieczysław Weinberg Institute.
The project was co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund – a state special-purpose fund, as part of the “Muzyczny Ślad” programme, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
The media patronage over the project is provided by the Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC and TVP Kultura.
The recordings are available free of charge on the Piotr Orawski Foundation's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxj8c_1LZWGRv3K_4L7lPvqOXGkNBm8Fy
