From September 28 to October 13, 2024, Poznań will resonate with the compositions of the patron of the Grand Theatre thanks to the 2nd Moniuszko Festival. A rich program will be presented, catering to both audiences eager for traditional interpretations of Stanisław Moniuszko's works and those awaiting new interpretations and premieres of his compositions.
The festival will open with the premiere of the one-act opera Flis in a chamber version, rediscovered thanks to musicologist Jakub Lis, who specializes in 19th-century Polish music. The performance, directed by Barbara Poll, will be conducted by Rafał Kłoczko.
The production of Jawnuta will feature soloists from the Poznań Opera as well as Romani artists. An international jury awarded this production the International Opera Award, the "opera Oscar."
The program will also include two concerts featuring Moniuszko's songs in new arrangements for soloists and a chamber orchestra: one at the Bazar Poznański (October 1) and another in the opera's foyer (October 13). The Grand Theatre Orchestra, soprano Magdalena Nowacka, and tenor Piotr Friebe will perform under the baton of Andrei Yakushau.
Master Stanisław would certainly be delighted with the presence of the youngest music lovers at the festival. Children aged 0-3, along with their guardians, will be able to enjoy a short musical story inspired by Moniuszko's work, titled najnajMONIUSZKO. Especially for them, artists have prepared arrangements of the composer's most famous pieces for voice, piano, and percussion instruments!
The artistic director of this edition of the festival is Szymon Mechliński.
