In 2017, the Karol Szymanowski Music Society celebrates its 40th anniversary. The last accent of the jubilee celebrations, which have been going on since March, is the International Scientific Conference "Karol Szymanowski in culture of the 20th and 21st centuries". The event will be held in Zakopane between October 1 and 4.
The celebrations will begin on October 1 at 5:00 p.m. in the Villa Atma. The host of the meeting will be the first custodian of the Atma museum and a founding member of the Karol Szymanowski Music Society, dr Maciej Pinkwart. After the meeting, at 8:00 p.m. there will be a concert of Szymanowski's music in the Church of The Holy Cross. It will be performed by the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Gabriel Chmura, along with sopranist Iwona Hoss.
The conference will be devoted to Karol Szymanowski's work, its reception and significance in Polish and world culture of the last century. The sessions will have an interdisciplinary character – apart from musicologists, literary scholars, theorists, and folklore experts will talk about the composer's influence on other fields of art. Participation was confirmed by 29 speakers from Poland and abroad (USA, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, Denmark, Ukraine).
Admission to the Conference and accompanying events is free.
