Józef Madeja in Memoriam

MadejaAs a result of cooperation between the Academy of Music in Poznań and Józef Madeja Association, a unique concert will be held on 30 April 2021 at 7.00 p.m. in the Lubrański Concert Hall at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Due to the restrictions related to the pandemic, the project will be carried out on-line and will be broadcast on the Association's YouTube channel.

The concert "Józef Madeja in Memoriam" is dedicated to one of the most outstanding figures in the world of clarinet music of the 20th century. Professor, composer, organiser of musical life, and co-founder of the Wind Instruments Department at the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań – Józef Madeja – is an exceptional and unjustly forgotten artist. He was the first Polish clarinetist who performed as a soloist with symphony orchestras. He popularized Polish clarinet literature and also contributed to the first edition of Karol Kurpiński's Concerto in B flat major. Since 2019, Madeja's achievements have been popularized by the Józef Madeja Association which organises numerous artistic events dedicated to the memory of its patron.

The concert will be performed by professors and students of the Academy of Music in Poznań: Arkadiusz Adamczyk, Kamil Babka, Jan Czaja, Yang Xu-Czaja, Paweł Drobnik, Bartosz Gorzkowski, Hanna Holeksa, Jakub Kaszuba, Piotr Kosarga, Paweł Kroczek, Łukasz Krzemiński, Hanna Lizinkiewicz, Ewa Murawska, Mateusz Nowicki, Damian Suchożebrski, Igor Szeligowski, Barbara Tritt and Tomasz Zubrzycki. The concert will include premieres of works by Józef Madeja: two songs You are not mine and Glass Coffin as well as miniature Romance for clarinet and piano. In addition, we will hear pieces by Polish composers – Henryk Czyż, Szymon Laks and Sławomir Kaczorowski.
