The music of the world-renowned Polish Master of contemporary music, Krzysztof Penderecki, and the Master of film music, Abel Korzeniowski, will be performed by one of the most famous Polish orchestras. On December 13, 2024, at 7:00 PM, the Sinfonietta Cracovia, the Orchestra of the Royal Capital City of Cracow, will premiere Korzeniowski's latest work during the Jubilee Gala at the modern Ice Kraków Congress Centre!
The program of the Jubilee Gala, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the orchestra, will be the culmination of this year’s concert events. Recognized artists such as: Szymon Nehring (piano) and Andrzej Ciepliński (clarinet) will perform as soloists. The first part of the concert, presenting various facets of Krzysztof Penderecki's music, will be conducted by Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak, the artistic director of Sinfonietta Cracovia. The second part will feature the music of Abel Korzeniowski, conducted by the composer himself.
The concert also carries a nostalgic context, recalling the master-student relationship between the composers. Abel Korzeniowski studied composition at the Cracow Academy of Music under the guidance of Krzysztof Penderecki and later conducted performances of his music. During the December concert, Korzeniowski’s suite with themes from memorable works of American cinema will be performed, including the poignant music from A Single Man by Tom Ford. Additionally, the world premiere of Unexpected Gravity of Green Flowers, a completely new work commissioned by Sinfonietta Cracovia for its 30th anniversary, will be presented.
The event is financed by the European Union #NextGenerationEU.
The concert is co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance as part of the "Musician-in-Residence" program, funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
