Katowice | Silesian String Quartet and AUKSO at NOSPR

Knapik

On May 25, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. the AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the city of Tychy and the Silesian Quartet will perform at the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall in Katowice. The concert will premiere Eugeniusz Knapik's 2nd String Quartet.

The programme of the concert performed by NOSPR's guests will featured works by British composer Edward Elgar, German artist Werner Egek and Eugeniusz Knapik – professor at the Academy of Music in Katowice.

AUKSO under the direction of Marek Mos will present the Islands for string orchestra by Eugeniusz Knapik, commissioned in 1983 by Musica Viva Australia and the Adelaide Festival. It is a one-part composition with two linking fragments of the form symbolizing two states of matter, namely: water (sea) and earth (island). The work was inpired by an image of an observer on the ship, looking out for land on the horizon and should be understood metaphorically. In the second part of the evening, one of the leading Polish chamber ensembles – the Silesian Quartet – will premiere Eugeniusz Knapik's String Quartet No. 2.
