Ensemble Kompopolex invites you to a concert on 13 December 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in the Assembly Hall of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. The ensemble will present works that formed the core of their repertoire for other concerts this year, along with world premieres of compositions by Maciej Michaluk and Jacek Sotomski.
Maciej Michaluk (a Wrocław-based composer and lecturer at the K. Lipiński Academy of Music and the Academy of Fine Arts) has composed la folia for the trio on commission. The material for the piece is based on “alternative” scientific methods, conspiracy theories, UFO topics and encounters with extraterrestrial civilizations. The instrumentation includes the theremin (one of the earliest electronic instruments), as well as audio and video samplers employing machine-learning techniques.
Jacek Sotomski’s System Shock, scored for MOOG Labyrinth synthesizer, accordion, sampler and live electronics, was premiered by Ensemble Kompopolex in Cologne. The upcoming performance will mark its Polish premiere.
The performance of Imaginarium Polkolor by Paweł Malinowski will be the stage premiere of a piece composed in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Commissioned by the Musica Privata festival in Łódź, it has so far existed only in the form of an audio documentation available on YouTube.
I’m the real pig blood soaked f***** homecoming queen* was commissioned from Viacheslav Kyrylov in 2023 and premiered by Ensemble Kompopolex. Since then, however, the piece has continued to evolve in the composer’s imagination. In December, it will be heard in a revised and refined version.
Concerts by this Wrocław-based trio always feature unconventional works; each composition employs different instrumentation, electronics setups or media, becoming a unique mini-concert of its own. The event will offer the audience a multidimensional experience, highlighting the diverse colours of the most intriguing Polish composers’ creative output.
