"The Mask / Planets" live in concert will take place on 15 July 2021 in the Krzysztof Penderecki Auditorium Hall of the ICE Kraków Congress Centre. Sinfonietta Cracovia and its listeners will not only enter the world of music and science, but also embark on a fascinating journey through the universe of art and film music.
For the first time in history, Sinfonietta Cracovia under the baton of Jurek Dybał will present the award-winning animated film The Mask – directed by the Quay brothers and based on the prose of Stanisław Lem – with live music! During the screening of the film, made in the legendary Polish Se-Ma-For studio, the orchestra will perform live the soundtrack composed by Krzysztof Penderecki – his spectacular De natura sonoris I.
In the second part of the concert, we will hear the famous orchestral suite The Planets by Gustav Holst – a work widely considered one of the first compositions in the style of contemporary film music, which for decades has inspired the greatest creators of the genre – including Hans Zimmer and John Williams (especially in the Star Wars soundtrack). Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the solar system and its supposed astrological character.
Co-financed in the "Music" programme carried out by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
