The album “Krzysztof Meyer – Choral Works” is the tenth installment in the "Anthology of Polish A Cappella Music" – a unique series by the Choir of the Częstochowa Philharmonic Collegium Cantorum, conducted by Janusz Siadlak. The program features four world premiere recordings. The album will be released on February 1, 2025, and will be available on the website https://www.dux.pl/ as well as in streaming services.
The opening cycle of the album, Nehmt hin die Welt! Op. 120, set to words by Friedrich Schiller, was composed by Krzysztof Meyer between 2013 and 2024: three of the four choral miniatures have been recorded for the first time. The album is completed by the solemn Te Deum Op. 84, revised multiple times by the composer and finally completed in 2024, which is also being recorded for the first time.
The album also includes contrasting works from the 1980s: Wieliczalnaja Op. 71, based on texts from the Orthodox liturgy and the Gospel of St. Luke, and Staunen Op. 91 – the fourth part of the oratorio The Creation of the World set to words by Pastor Gerhard Engelsberger.
A key aspect of the creation of this project was the close collaboration with Krzysztof Meyer himself, the recipient of the 2024 Golden Fryderyk, who participated in rehearsals and recordings, ensuring a faithful rendition of his compositional intentions. The release is thus marked by not only its high artistic value but also its historical significance – it preserves an entirely authorized perspective on the work of one of Poland's most outstanding contemporary composers.
The unique series “Anthology of Polish A Cappella Music”, launched in 2017, showcases the most valuable works of Polish choral music. The project was initiated by Janusz Siadlak, who has been awarded the Silver Medal "For Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis”.
The album was released by DUX Recording Producers in co-production with the Institute for the Development of the Arts, with financial support from the Marshal's Office of the Silesian Voivodeship and the City of Częstochowa.
