The last concert of the 2017/2018 artistic season of the Henryk Wieniawski Lublin Philharmonic will take place on June 8, 2018 at 7:00 pm under the title "Listen to what Wyspiański was listening to before he wrote the Wedding".
The programme of the concert refers directly to the compositions that inspired Stanisław Wyspiański during his foreign travels: Die Feen, Lohengrin and Der Fliegende Holländer by Richard Wagner (Bavaria, 1890), Giuseppe Verdi – Un ballo in maschera, and Carl Maria von Weber – Der Freischütz.
The closest link between Wyspiański and the musical art in Poland was his acquaintance with the composer and musicologist Henryk Opieński. They not only shared common interests and organised amateur theater performances, but also cooperated with creating music illustrations of Wyspiański's works. During the concert we will hear a symphonic poem Zygmunt August and Barbara by Henryka Opieński.
The works of Stanisław Wyspiański enjoyed popularity among contemporary composers. The Akropolis cantata for mixed choir and orchestra by Grażyna Bacewicz, which was written in 1964 on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the Jagiellonian University, is based on the Wyspiański's drama of the same title. The work will be performed by the Symphony Orchestra of the Lublin Philharmonic and the Lublin Lute Choir under the direction of Piotr Wajrak.
