The matinée at the National Forum of Music, featuring distinguished violinist Karolina Podorska - concertmaster of the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra - and pianist Grzegorz Skrobiński, who accompanies her, will be an excellent opportunity to hear works belonging to the main repertoire of violin music. In addition to Ludwig van Beethoven's classic Violin Sonata No. 1, we will hear works by Polish composers full of romantic depth on March 2, 2025 at 12:30 pm.
Polonaise brillante in A major, Op. 21 is one of the last compositions in Henryk Wieniawski's creative output and presents the style of a mature composer. Karol Szymanowski's Violin Sonata in D minor, Op. 9, on the other hand, was written during the early period of its creator's individual artistic language. Enchanting in its melodic invention, the three-movement composition was soon praised by outstanding Polish instrumentalists Paweł Kochański and Artur Rubinstein.
The repertoire will also be enriched by a work by Chorzów-born American film music composer, winner of two Oscars and a Golden Globe winner, Franz Waxman. Carmen Fantasie is probably his best-known work, having originated as part of the soundtrack to the Humoresque (1946). The virtuoso composition is, of course, based on the themes of Georges Bizet's famous opera.
