Mobile Residencies of the New Music Orchestra

Information about the event | Łódź | 22 October 2025

The New Music Orchestra returns to Łódź as part of the “OMN 3.0 Mobile Residencies” project – a concert series aimed at bringing 21st-century music closer to new audiences. The concert on October 22, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the Academy of Music in Łódź features works by four composers for whom contemporary music is not just a stylistic choice, but a means of expressing perspectives on the world and the human condition. The project’s core idea is to show that new music can be more than just a field of experimentation — it can be a space of moving emotions, deep reflection, and beauty that speaks to every listener.

The program will include works by Tomasz Jakub Opałka, Paweł Malinowski, Trond Reinholdtsen, and Kamil Kruk.
Performers will include not only the New Music Orchestra (OMN) but also the ensemble SoundCheck, conducted by Szymon Bywalec and Maciej Koczur, with violinist Kacper Pałuba as soloist.

The concert will open with Violin Concerto No. 2 "Afterglow" by Tomasz Jakub Opałka — a piece composed for soloists of exceptional sensitivity and courage.

Paweł Malinowski’s floating:disappearance, premiered in May at the International Festival of Krakow Composers, invites the audience into a world of subtle sound and emotion, suspended between presence and disappearance.

Norwegian composer Trond Reinholdtsen, in Unsichtbare Musik, ventures into the realm of conceptual music, where the boundaries between sound, performance, and philosophical reflection are nearly indistinguishable.

The concert will conclude with Firmamentum by Kamil Kruk — a piece for a 32-member instrumental ensemble arranged in a spatial setup.

Co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund — a state special-purpose fund — under the "Music" program implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
