The Polish Society for Contemporary Music invites the audience to a unique chamber concert, "Music Today". This special event features extended audience participation, combining a live artistic performance with an engaging improvisation workshop. On Thursday, May 14, at 2.00 pm, at CAM Korotyńskiego (13 Korotyńskiego St., Warsaw), the acclaimed clarinetist, saxophonist, and composer Bartosz Smorągiewicz will perform, discuss a selection of pieces (including his own compositions), and share the details of his creative process and his unique perspective on contemporary music. Admission is free.
Contemporary chamber music is a fascinating journey through the vibrant worlds of today’s composers. For this reason the "Music Today" recital series focuses on showcasing the latest works written for solo instruments.
The second part of the concert will be led by the soloist, Bartosz Smorągiewicz, alongside two moderators: composer and pianist Jarosław Siwiński, and double bassist Małgorzata Kołcz. Together, they will invite the listeners to take an active role in this musical encounter. Participants and moderators will join forces in a collective improvisation, drawing inspiration from elements of the compositions performed earlier in the program.
Workshop? Lecture? Concert? Or perhaps creative play? One could call it immersive analysis, a hybrid concert, or an experimental musical dialogue. The final definition remains open.
The Polish Society for Contemporary Music welcomes both singers and instrumentalists (bringing one's own instruments might be useful) as well as those who have never held one before. Every willing participant will be provided with an instrument and encouraged to make music according to their own abilities.
The organizers also warmly welcome music lovers with special needs.
The concert is part of the Polish Society for Contemporary Music's project "Creative Warsaw" and is co-funded by the City of Warsaw.
