Morning Symphonic Concert featuring works by Antoni Szałowski and Mikołaj Górecki will be held on February 19, 2017 at 12.00 at the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.
Having graduated from the Warsaw Conservatoire, Antoni Szałowski (1907-1973) went on to study with Nadia Boulanger at the the École Normale de Musique de Paris. His neoclassical Overture (1937) was his first well-known piece. During World War II he lived in hiding and left for France again, where he decided to settle down.
Mikołaj Górecki (b. 1970) graduated with honours in composition from the Music Academy in Katowice under the direction of his father Henryk Mikołaj Górecki. He won several awards, including the 1st prize at the Competition for Young Composers in Bielsko-Biała in 1988 and 3rd prize at the Forum of Young Composers in Krakow in 1994. One of his most frequently performed works is Concerto-Notturno written in 2000.
Programme: Overture by Antoni Szałowski, Suite "Les biches" by Francis Poulenc, Concerto-Notturno for violin and string orchestra by Mikołaj Górecki and Suite in F major, Op. 33 by Albert Roussel.
Performers: Kaja Danczkowska (violin), Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra under Bassem Akiki, Marcin Majchrowski (introduction).
