The celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR) will begin with a festive special concert on October 4, 2025, at 6:00 PM—almost exactly 90 years after the orchestra’s radio debut. The program will feature two works that NOSPR performed for the first time in its history. Free admission passes will be available at the NOSPR box office starting Wednesday, October 1, at 10:00 AM.
The concert will open with Little Overture (Mała uwertura) by Wojciech Kilar, whose life was closely tied to both the orchestra and the city of Katowice. The second piece of the evening, Little Suite (Mała suita) by Witold Lutosławski, also had its symphonic premiere performed by NOSPR under the baton of its founder, Grzegorz Fitelberg.
The program will also include Variations in B-flat major, Op. 2, on the theme Là ci darem la mano from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, composed by Frédéric Chopin and performed by Zbigniew Raubo as piano soloist. The concert will conclude with Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68 by Johannes Brahms.
The evening will be conducted by Alexander Liebreich, well-known to the Katowice audience, who served as artistic director of NOSPR from 2012 to 2019. His tenure included the orchestra’s move to its current home at Wojciech Kilar Square in the Katowice Culture Zone.
This concert marks the beginning of a season-long series celebrating former NOSPR directors and individuals who have made invaluable contributions to the ensemble’s legacy.
