On May 24, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. the Józef Elsner Opole Philharmonic will host a concert of Polish contemporary music performed by the Silesian Quartet.
The Silesian Quartet is one of the leading Polish chamber ensembles. The ensemble’s musicians have honed their craft in master classes led by members of such quartets as LaSalle, Amadeus, Juilliard, Smetana, Alban Berg and others. The Quartet’s repertoire consists of over 400 chamber pieces, with around 300 of them representing works from the musical canon of the 20th and 21st-centuries. The chamber musicians of Silesia have premiered over 100 string quartets by Polish and foreign composers, with a significant number of works dedicated to them. They were nominated to the "Fryderyk" award 24 times, winning six statuettes.
During the May concert in Opole, the ensemble will performe String Quartet No. 4 by Grażyna Bacewicz, String Quartet No. 2 "Quasi una Fantasia" by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and the works of Grzegorz Ciechowski (Republic band) arranged for string quartet.
