Poznań | Premiere of Jerzy Fryderyk Wojciechowski's opera "Ofelia"

Teatr Wielki Poznań

The premiere of "Ofelia" by Jerzy Fryderyk Wojciechowski, directed by Krzysztof Cicheński, will take place on March 30, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the Stanisław Moniuszko Grand Theater in Poznań.

This one-act opera based on Stanisław Wyspiański's drama The Death of Ophelia qualified itself to the final of the10th Metaphors of Reality Competition (2017) organized by the Polish Theater in Poznań and the Stanisław Moniuszko Grand Theater in Poznan.

Wojciechowski, who did not change or delete a single line of the original, wrote his opera for two soloists, and introduced the third heroine – Britney Spears, whose songs were discreetly introduced to the score. A frightened student in a school uniform, a miserable bride-to-be in a wedding dress and shaved, filled with rage Britney represent exaggerated cultural clichés. On the one hand, these stereotypical representations facilitate identification with such a phantasmatic (Young Poland and contemporary) representation of femininity, and on the other hand enable (feminist, emotional and ideological) opposition to traditional or patriarchal, commonly persisted patterns.

Maria Domżał, Maria Antkowiak and Diana Cristescu will perform the leading roles.
