The premiere closing the “Generations” season at the Stanisław Moniuszko Grand Theatre in Poznań will be the ballet R+J. Romeo and Juliet, choreographed by Robert Bondara, on June 27, 2025, at 7:00 PM.
For Robert Bondara, choreographer and director of the production, perhaps the most iconic love story of all time becomes a starting point for reflection on a world governed by tension and division.
“Although the context of conflict may differ – social, political, national, cultural, familial, ethnic, religious – I try to find the contemporary Romeo and Juliet in every space,” says Bondara. “The archetype of the lovers is, for me, a starting point to create a timeless narrative that resonates with the sensitivity and imagination of today’s audience, prompting reflection on the world around us.”
The ballet ensemble of the Grand Theatre in Poznań will convey the tenderness of love, the strength it takes to fight for it, and the courage to resist everything that distances us from happiness and erodes our sense of safety.
Unusually for a ballet production, Bondara takes a bold and innovative approach to the musical layer. The richness of choreographic expression will be complemented by works by Michał Jacaszek as well as music by Vulfpeck, The Smile, and Sigur Rós. Audiences will experience R+J in immersive audio, thanks to the new state-of-the-art sound system installed at the Poznań theatre.
