The program of the organ recital by Professor Andrzej Szadejko, an organist at the Gdańsk Academy of Music, on April 2, 2025, at 7:00 PM, will feature Baltic themes, but also works that evoke the spirit of Johann Sebastian Bach himself.
Until the end of World War II, Gdańsk was one of the most developed centers of organ music in Europe. With great care for this element of the cultural heritage of the capital of Pomerania, the organist Andrzej Szadejko, born in Gdańsk, has linked his career. In his interpretation, we will hear compositions by, among others, Johann Gottfried Müthel, who worked as a kapellmeister and organist in the Baltic city of Riga, Gdańsk composer Andreas Schade, and Aleksander Karczyński, born in Pelplin. The most famous work in his repertoire – the three-part Sonata in B minor* – is often compared to the works of Guilmant or Nowowiejski.
Also to be performed will be Szadejko's own compositions: Menuet alla Polonaise and Partita in e.
