The Polish Chamber Musicians’ Association, as the publisher of the quarterly Notatnik Pianistyczny, has announced the results of the “Chopin Inspirations” composition competition, for a piano miniature inspired by the works (waltzes or mazurkas) of Fryderyk Chopin.
The competition was held in two categories – for professional composers born before 1999 and in an open category (no age limit).
In the Professional Category, no First Prize was awarded.
Second Prize (PLN 3000) was awarded to Maksym Kalinowski for the piece Quasi-Hoquetus Valse.
Third Prize (PLN 2000) ex aequo was awarded to Waldemar Król for Valse à la Mazurka and Marcin Wójcik for Valse.
The following compositions received honourable mentions: Over a one-minute Waltz by Maksym Kalinowski, Valse Reverie by Zbigniew Słowik, Mazurek by Piotr Senkowski, and Chopinofication! by Nikodem Kluczyński.
The winner in the Open Category was Dominik Michalik, author of Echo Mazurka.
Honourable mentions in this category were awarded to: Szymon Kuliś (Waltz in G major), Zofia Jasińska (Fleeting Memory), Mikołaj Winiarski (Valse-fantasie), and Maciej Buchaniewicz (Prelude in D minor).
These compositions will be premiered during a special concert and published in Notatnik Pianistyczny or a dedicated commemorative edition. Works that received main prizes will also be recorded.
The jury consisted of: Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa, Marta Mołodyńska-Wheeler, Marek Szlezer, and Grzegorz Mania.
