Polish ethnologist, choreologist and dance anthropologist Roderyk Lange died at the age of 87 on March 16, 2017.
He obtained his PhD in ethnology in 1975 and a habilitation in 1977. A long-time collaborator of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, he was also a guest lecturer at the Laban Art of Movement Centre (Addlestone), Centre for Dance Studies (Jersey/UK), Queen’s University (Belfast), University of Edinburgh and Goldsmiths’ College at the University of London. In 1993, he established the Institute of Choreology in Poznań.
Roderyk Lange was an author of numerous articles, several books, and a number of edited collections on dance, ranging from works on Laban’s kinetography, through essays and books on Polish dance folklore and dance anthropology. He was the editor of "Dance Studies" and "Studia Choreologic" periodicals.
