In 2024 round anniversaries of premieres of the Symphony in B minor "Polonia" Op. 24 and the Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 17 by Ignacy Jan Paderewski will take place. On August 3 at 6:00 p.m. these works will be performed by the Cracow Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alexander Humala and pianist Krzysztof Książek, one of the most versatile artists of his generation.
The first performance of the Piano Concerto took place 135 years ago in Vienna, and the "Polonia" Symphony - 115 years ago (then it was presented by the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Max Fiedler).
According to the concept of the National Cultural Center - the organizers of this concert - the repertoire will show two periods of Ignacy Jan Paderewski's work: the youthful period and the period of creative maturity of the outstanding pianist, composer and statesman. Written by a twenty-something composer, the Piano Concerto in A minor delights with its melody, virtuosity and numerous references to Polish folk music. The Symphony in B minor, “Polonia” Op. 24, is completely different - composed by an experienced artist on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the January Uprising.
