Selected works for the ISCM World New Music Days MTMW 2025 have been announced!

Miso Music Portugal, the Portuguese section of ISCM and IAMIC and host of the ISCM World New Music Days 2025, has announced the selected works to be performed at the Festival. Among them is a composition chosen by the Polish National Jury of the Polish Society for Contemporary Music, chaired by Anna Dorota Władyczka—To bee or not to bee by Agata Zemla.

Polish composers also submitted works individually, independently from the decisions of the PTMW National Jury, sending scores to the festival organizers. As a result, Soliloquy by Barbara Jazwinski, who resides in the United States, and Suite Macabre by Tomasz Skweres, based in Austria, were also selected.

The overarching theme of the ISCM World New Music Days MTMW Festival, which will take place in Portugal (Lisbon and Porto) from May 30 to June 7, is "Thirst for Change." This will be the first time since 1923 that the festival is held in Portugal. The program will feature approximately 120 works (selected through a competition, as well as pieces by Portuguese composers and Honorary Members of ISCM), to be presented in around 20 concerts. Some of the most renowned and talented Portuguese musicians will perform.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Miso Music Portugal aims for this year's edition to not only promote Portuguese musical culture but also to carry an ecological message. As part of the festival, an international seminar and debate will be organized on the issue of reducing sources of drinking water on the planet (a particularly relevant topic in Portugal), featuring experts from the fields of art, geology, physics, sociology, anthropology, and philosophy.
