From November 12 to December 6, the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice will host five concerts as part of the Silesian Composers’ Tribune 2025 – a long-running series that for over half a century has documented, inspired, and promoted the work of composers connected with Silesia. This year’s edition offers an exceptionally diverse program – from solo pieces to extensive chamber works and compositions with electronics. The series is organized by the Katowice Branch of the Polish Composers’ Union. Admission to all concerts is free, but tickets are required.
The event presents a cross-section of contemporary Silesian music – from the doyens of the local school of composition (Aleksander Lasoń, Andrzej Krzanowski), through established creators (Krzysztof Wołek, Stanisław Bromboszcz, Przemysław Scheller), to the youngest generation of composers entering the professional music scene. The audience will hear 10 world premieres, including a special performance of Roman Berger’s Exodus IV – Finale, which will be presented for the first time in its complete version. Performers will include, among others, the Silesian Quartet, Nemesis Quartet, Alicja Molitorys, Ewelina Bachul, and many other outstanding musicians.
Is there a common thread of “Silesianness” in the music created here and now? Or perhaps it is diversity itself that best defines our identity?
The Silesian Composers’ Tribune does not offer easy answers – it creates a space for sound that questions, inspires, and connects generations.
