The atmosphere of the Sinfonietta Cracovia concert on April 24, 2025, at 7:30 PM at the Karol Szymanowski Cracow Philharmonic will offer a moment of calm, immersed in the soothing sound of strings and music inspired by the culture of the Land of the Rising Sun.
This contemplative, Eastern-spirited evening will open with works by Cracow-based composer Marcel Chyrzyński: the string orchestra piece Ukiyo-e, inspired by the iconic Japanese art of 浮世絵 (Ukiyo-e), and Ukiyo-e No. 6 – a concerto for violin and string orchestra. The soloist will be violinist Maciej Lulek.
This year also marks the fifth anniversary of the passing of Professor Krzysztof Penderecki, who was a mentor to Sinfonietta Cracovia and frequently conducted the orchestra. In tribute, Adagio Krzysztof Penderecki in memoriam by Chyrzyński will also be performed.
The second half of the concert will be dedicated to the music of Tan Dun, the celebrated composer known for his score to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. His Crouching Tiger Concerto will be performed by Sinfonietta Cracovia under the baton of Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak, featuring renowned cellist and educator Marcin Zdunik as soloist.
Before the concert, at 6:30 PM in the Golden Hall of the Philharmonic, a special session titled "What is Zen" will take place. Nun Eiki (Aleksandra Migacz), a Zen Buddhism teacher with over 30 years of experience, will introduce guests to the practice of mindfulness. The session will be hosted by Aga Kozak – journalist, educator, and coach.
The concert is co-organized with the Cracow Philharmonic as part of the “Musical Bridges” project.
It is also co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance within the "Musician-in-Residence" program, financed by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
The event is held in collaboration with PWM Edition as part of the TUTTI.pl program promoting the performance of Polish music.
