Song of Love and Death

Klaudiusz BaranThe concert entitled Song of Love and Death will be performed on April 22, 2016 at the Łódź Philharmonic.

The evening will start with symphonic poem Eternal Songs by Mieczysław Karłowicz. The idea for the triptych (Song of Everlasting Yearning, Song of Love and Death, Song of Eternal Being) was probably the result of composer’s solitary excursions in the Tatra Mountains. Three years after completing the work, he died in an avalanche on the Mały Kościelec slopes.

Łódź Philharmonic Orchestra under Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski will also present 2 symphonic poems by Wojciech Kilar related to the folklore of the Podhale region - Kościelec 1909 (associated with the 75th anniversary of the Warsaw Philharmonic and the 100th of Karłowicz’s birth) and Krzesany (the title of which refers to dance steps typical for the Podhale region, including striking one heel against the other while leaping up). The artists, joined by accordionist Klaudiusz Baran, will close the concert with Accordion Concerto by Marcin Błażewicz.
