A concert performed by members of the Opera Academy will be held on February 4, 2017 at the Redutowe Halls of the Teatr Wielki-Polish National Opera in Warsaw.
Mieczysław Karłowicz was a composer and an enthusiast of the Tatra mountains. The wintry weather inspired members of the Opera Academy, the young talent development programme held by the Teatr Wielki-Polish National Opera, to work on his songs. Although the composer himself called the pieces his "youthful sins", they became part of the canon of Polish vocal-instrumental music. Written in the 1890s in Berlin, they are composed for voice and piano to words by Polish poets, such as Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer. The concert concludes the Opera Academy workshops led by Eytan Pessen and Matthias Rexroth and, apart from Karłowicz’s songs, includes operatic arias by other composers (source: www.teatrwielki.pl).
