Stanisław Moryto – composer, organist and music teacher, professor of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw – died on the 5th June 2018.
He graduated in organ (1971, after studies with Feliks Rączkowski) and composition (1974, after studies with Tadeusz Paciorkiewicz) from the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw. In 1973-81, he was the president of the Polish Musical Youth Association “„Jeunesses Musicales de Pologne”, and in 1981-97 – president of the Polish Musical Institute. He was also the initiator and artistic director of the festival “Conversatorium of Organ Music” in Legnica.
In the years 1996-2002 Stanisław Moryto was the prorector of the Academy of Music in Warsaw, in the years 2002-2005 – the dean of the Department of Composition, Conducting and Theory of Music, and then the rector of the instituttion (2005-2012). In addition, he taught at the Józef Elsner State Music Schools in Warsaw.
In 2011 he was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of Keimyung University in Daegu (South Korea). He received a number of awards and distinctions for his work, including the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2001), and the Crucem, Magni Officialis from the Grand Master of the Order of Malta (2007). In 2012 the President of the Republic of Poland awarded Stanisław Moryto the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for outstanding achievements in the dissemination of musical culture, for achievements in artistic creation and didactic activity.
