On 31 October 2025 at 7:00 p.m., as part of the Strings Festival Zielona Góra, the Choir and Orchestra of the Zielona Góra Philharmonic will perform under the baton of Marco Guidarini. The soloists will be Roman Perucki (organ), Małgorzata Priebe (soprano), and Adrian Janus (baritone).
The program will feature Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem in D minor, Johannes Brahms’s Symphony No. 3 in F major, Op. 90, and Krzysztof Penderecki’s Chaconne (in memoria del Giovanni Paolo II).
Krzysztof Penderecki transposed the concept of the Baroque chaconne into the realm of contemporary music, incorporating this movement into his earlier monumental requiem mass, Polish Requiem. Each part of the work commemorates significant figures from Polish history (hence the title of the piece). In 2005, by adding the Chaconne to Polish Requiem, Penderecki dedicated it to the late Pope John Paul II. The work is often performed as an independent composition for string orchestra.
