24 singers from 7 countries advance to the second stage of the 21st Ada Sari International Vocal Art Competition
The Jury of the 21st Ada Sari International Vocal Art Competition in Nowy Sącz has selected 24 singers from 7 countries to proceed to the second stage. The largest group among them are Polish participants (10), followed by singers from Ukraine (5), South Korea (4), China (2), and one representative each from Denmark, Latvia, and Kazakhstan.
The second stage will feature a wide vocal range, including 10 sopranos, 6 baritones, 5 mezzo-sopranos, 2 basses, and 1 tenor.
“Congratulations to those who made it to the next round—I wish you success,” said Małgorzata Walewska, Chair of the Jury. “To those for whom the competition ends today, I want to emphasize that each juror hears differently. It’s worth talking to us to learn how we assessed your performance and what caught our attention,” she added.
Encouraged by her words, the young artists gathered in long lines to speak with the jurors after the announcement. It’s worth noting that the Ada Sari Competition is one of the few in the world that offers participants the opportunity to receive direct feedback from the jury—an invaluable source of advice and guidance.
The first stage took place over two days. Each singer performed two pieces, with a time limit of ten minutes per performance. One of the two pieces had to be a Mozart composition, as the jury considers his works to be the most revealing of a singer’s vocal technique. The second piece was chosen by the artist from a list provided by the organizers.
The competition is held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Hanna Wróblewska, and the Deputy Marshal of the Małopolska Region, Witold Kozłowski. It is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund, a state special-purpose fund, as part of the "Music" program run by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
