The Metropolitan Opera – live in HD: "L'Amour de Loin" by Kaija Saariaho

mKaija Saariaho’s opera L'Amour de Loin will be broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera on December 10, 2016 at Kino Praha in Warsaw.

The work by Finnish composer (libr. by Amin Maalouf) was commissioned by the Salzburg Festival and first staged in 2000. Set in 12th-century Aquitaine, it is a tale of love’s unfathomable nature. With a mixture of dissonance, electronic sounds and medieval troubadour songs, the opera is performed by a cast comprising Eric Owens, Tamara Mumford and Susanna Phillips and conducted by Susanna Mälkki (who makes her Met debut).

The Metropolitan Opera’s 2016-17 season, the 50th anniversary of its home at Lincoln Center, features 225 opera performances of 26 operas in a varied repertory that ranges from 18th century masterpieces to one of the most acclaimed operas in recent years. The Met: Live in HD series, which transmits Met performances to more than 2,000 movie theaters in 70 countries around the world, continues for its 11th season and will include the broadcast of 10 performances from the season.
