The Year 2026 as the Year of Andrzej Wajda – the master's film music will resound during the 1st International Festival "Central Music Square"

Information about the event | Warszawa | 21 June 2026

As part of the 1st International Festival "Central Music Square"—an event unique on a European scale—a concert celebrating the Year of Andrzej Wajda, the outstanding director and co-founder of the Polish Film School, will take place on June 21, 2026, at 8:15 PM. The program of this open-air concert, titled "Music of the Silver Screen" and performed by the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra under the baton of Wojciech Rodek, will evoke iconic works of film music, highlighting its vital inspiration: Romantic program music.

The repertoire will include, among others, the overture to Gioachino Rossini's opera William Tell, Paul Dukas's symphonic scherzo The Sorcerer's Apprentice, as well as John Williams's music from the films Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Star Wars.

A special place in the program will be occupied by compositions closely linked to the oeuvre of Andrzej Wajda. The audience will hear Andrzej Korzyński’s music from the film The Birch Wood, Wojciech Kilar’s famous waltz from The Promised Land, and an extensive suite from the film Pan Tadeusz. The presence of these works in the concert program serves as a reminder of how crucial a role the director's collaboration with eminent composers played in Andrzej Wajda's films. The artistic partnership between Wajda and Kilar is recognized today as one of the most significant in the history of Polish cinematography. Wojciech Kilar’s cinematic scores, created for Wajda's masterpieces, have become universally recognized, autonomous musical works.

This film music—evocative, emotional, and communicative, universally admired and loved by audiences—will be accompanied by a multimedia setting.
