Their voices in the National Forum of Music...

The centerpiece of the Art Chamber Ensemble's concert on November 28, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at the NFM will be the works of those Jewish composers who were active in the period leading up to the outbreak of World War II. Stylistically diverse and relatively rarely performed, works of Joachim Mendelson, Szymon Laks and Josef Koffler, among others, will be presented.

The Sonata for Violin and Piano by Joachim Mendelson, born in late 19th century Warsaw, was written only a few years before his tragic death at the hand of the Gestapo in 1943. In the musical layer of this composition, Mendelson clearly turns to neoclassicism, a trend also close to Szymon Laks. His Sonata for Cello and Piano belongs to the early stage of Laks' work.

Capriccio for violin and piano, written in Koffler's middle period, is the fruit of his interest in the aesthetics of new music and the technique of dodecaphony.

Subsidized by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund, as part of the “Composer Comissions” program, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
