The cultural life of Wrocław in 2025 is truly exceptional – this year we are celebrating not only the 10th anniversary of the Witold Lutosławski National Forum of Music, but also the 80th anniversaries of the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic and the Wrocław Opera. On this occasion, two jubilee concerts will take place on June 29: at 12:00 PM at the Wrocław Opera and at 6:00 PM at the National Forum of Music.
Eighty years later, the audience will once again gather at the site of the very first postwar concert held amid ruins – the Wrocław Opera, then known as the Municipal Theater. The NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, as the successor of the musicians who performed there in 1945, will play under the baton of Maestro Christoph Eschenbach, together with the Wrocław Opera Orchestra. Also taking the podium will be Mirian Khukhunaishvili, who will assume the role of Music Director of the Opera starting with the 2025/2026 artistic season.
The program will include:
– the Fairy Tale Overture,
– Highlander Dances and the Mazurka from Halka by Stanisław Moniuszko,
– and Polonaise in A major, Op. 40 No. 1, as well as Andante spianato and Grande Polonaise in E-flat major, Op. 22 by Fryderyk Chopin, performed by the renowned pianist Krzysztof Jabłoński.
In the evening at the National Forum of Music, the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic will once again perform under Christoph Eschenbach. The program will feature Mieczysław Weinberg’s Rhapsody on Moldavian Themes, a work reflecting the tragic history of World War II and the fate of those fleeing persecution. The solo part will be played by Radosław Pujanek, concertmaster of the Wrocław Philharmonic.
The concert will also be an opportunity to hear two symphonic masterpieces by Maurice Ravel, both composed in the interwar period and inspired by dance:
– the iconic Boléro
– and the evocative La Valse.
