81 years ago, the Warsaw Uprising began. Together, we will have the opportunity to honor its participants during the concert “Varsovians Sing (Un)Forbidden Songs”, which will take place on August 1, 2025, at 8:30 PM on Piłsudski Square. Admission to the event is free.
As every year on August 1, we will unite our voices in song — performing the (un)forbidden songs alongside the Stokłosa Collective Orchestra and the over 50-member Varsovians’ Choir, under the direction of Jan Stokłosa. The maestro is also the arranger of the songs performed during the August concert. This year’s soloists will be Edyta Krzemień and Jan Traczyk.
A songbook with lyrics will be available for download a few days before the event at https://www.1944.pl/. It will include wartime songs, featuring works by well-known Polish composers and cultural figures such as Karol Kurpiński, Andrzej Panufnik, Jan Ekier, Jerzy Dargiel, Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński, Michał Zieliński, and Jan Markowski.
The event will be broadcast live on TVP1.
The “Varsovians Sing (Un)Forbidden Songs” concert has been held annually since 2006 on the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. The goal of this musical gathering is to enable an active commemoration of the Warsaw Uprising insurgents through communal singing of wartime songs. This musical initiative is organized by the Warsaw Uprising Museum on Piłsudski Square in Warsaw and is broadcast by Polish Television.
