Between October 30 and November 28, 2018, the 5th International Festival of Ignacy Jan Paderewski will take place in Warsaw as part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence.
Paderewski spent his youth in the capital and returned to Warsaw many times, not only as a pianist and composer, but also as an eminent politician, philanthropist and patriot. The festival concerts are planned in the most important concert halls of the capital: at the National Philharmonic, the Royal Łazienki Park, the Royal Castle and the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music.
The event will feature many outstanding Polish and foreign artists and orchestras, such as Jerzy Maksymiuk with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Vadim Brodski, Peter Jablonski, Eduard Kunz and Motion Trio. In their performance, we will hear works of the patron of the Festival, as well as compositions by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Wojciech Kilara, Witolda Lutosławski, Krzysztof Penderecki, Zygmunt Stojowski, Karol Szymanowski and others.
The inauguration concert "Capital of Freedom" will take place at the National Philharmonic on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of regaining independence. The National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Jerzy Maksymiuk will perform Paderewski's Symphony in B minor. On the day of Paderewski's birthday, November 6, a "Birthday Concert" will be held at the National Philharmonic, during which Peter Jablonski will perform Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 17, and Eduard Kunz will play Polish Fantasia, Op.19. The musicians will be led by Marzena Diakun.
The festival will also include documentary screenings and an exhibition, showing Paderewski from a slightly different side.
