The premiere performance of Orphée, the Ancient Greek myth reimagined by Dariusz Przybylski, will take place on December 15, 2015 in the Warsaw Chamber Opera.
This dark, Faustian version of the story of poet Orpheus's descent into the underworld to retrieve his wife Eurydice was directed by Latvian artist Margo Zālīte and supervised by Maja Metelska (music director). Both the interpretation of the myth and performance production are innovative. Orpheus’ internal conflict is symbolized by 3 soloists - Robert Gierlach (bass-baritone), Jan Jakub Monowid (countertenor) and Andrzej Klimczak (bass). The role of Eurydice is interpreted by Olga Pasiecznik and Barbara Zamek, and the part of main hero’s alter ego is performed by proMODERN – vocal ensemble specializing in performing contemporary music.
Orphée is the second project of Przybylski-Zālīte team. Previously the artists worked together on staging the opera Fall in Deutsche Oper Berlin, which won much critical acclaim.
The next performances will be held also on December 16 and 17, 2015.
