The final concert of the 59th Tadeusz Baird Competition for Young Composers will take place on June 14, 2018 at 6.00 pm in the Warsaw headquarters of the Polish Music Publishers (8 Fredry St.).
Tadeusz Baird Young Composers Competition (former name: Youth Competition of Polish Composers' Union) has been organized annually since 1958. Its aim is to enable young Polish composers to start their career and encourage them to work independently. The main prize – Tadeusz Baird Award – in the amount of $2,500 for further compositional studies is funded by Alina Sawicka-Baird, wife of the composer. Honorable mentions are funded by the Main Board of the Polish Composers' Union. Since 2003, the Competition has two stages. The works that were qualified by the jury for second stage are performed during a public concert, after which the final verdict is announced. Then we also get to know the names of the winners.
The subject of the competition is different each year. This year we will hear works for percussion and viola performed by Miłosz Pękala and Michał Zaborski: Fraszki durbaszki – emblem of Frapuccino; from the Study in scarlet series – Serpentinato – emblem Klapancjusz, Sonata – emblem thatRhythm.man, Landscape Out of Time – emblem RIFF66TOY4J04.
Admission to the concert is free.
