The Witold Lutosławski Society and Program 2 of the Polish Radio invite you to the Witold Lutosławski Festival "Łańcuch XXII". The concerts will take place from January 25 to February 9, 2025, at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio. In connection with the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, the theme of this year's Festival has been conceived as a portrait of Polish music from the interwar period, the time of occupation, and the post-war reconstruction.
The youth of Witold Lutosławski and his contemporaries unfolded in the shadow of the war tragedy. The experiences of the 1940s left a deep mark on their lives and works; recorded in masterpieces, they became part of the bloodstream of contemporary culture. The festival’s program will focus on the most significant phenomena and trends in Polish and world musical culture, with particular attention to Lutosławski's works and artists closely associated with him—works by Roman Palester, Jan Krenz, Zbigniew Turski, and Andrzej Panufnik, which are rarely heard in concert practice. These will be accompanied by a broad international repertoire context, including works by Arnold Schönberg, Bohuslav Martinů, Béla Bartók, and Ruth Crawford Seeger.
The program also includes two Polish premieres: Monolith by Vagn Holmboe and Musica notturna by Giorgio Federico Ghedini.
The Witold Lutosławski Festival "Łańcuch XXII" is organized by the Witold Lutosławski Society in collaboration with Program 2 of the Polish Radio. It is co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund as part of the "Music" program, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance. Project partners include the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, NOSPR, the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra conducted by Jerzy Semkow, the Authors' Association ZAiKS, and the Polish Music Publishing House.
