3rd VIRTUOSO! Instrumental Competition for students of first and second degree music schools

The AULOS Foundation invites students from first- and second-degree music schools to participate in the 3rd Instrumental Competition VIRTUOSO!, which will take place in Toruń from April 14 to 30, 2025. This year’s edition will be held online (with submissions via recorded performances). The Polish Music Information Centre will fund a prize for the best performance of a work by a Polish composer of the 20th-21st century. The deadline for sending applications is April 14.

The competition aims to promote classical music, support young artists, provide students with a platform to showcase their artistic personality, and enhance the quality of music education. It is addressed to students of first- and second-degree music schools. Participants are required to submit recordings of two contrasting pieces. There are different age categories, and participants can apply in up to two of the four available categories:

  • A – String instruments (specializations: violin, viola, cello, double bass)
  • B – Woodwind instruments (specializations: flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon)
  • C – Brass instruments (specializations: horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba)
  • D – Piano
  • E – Chamber ensembles (up to 7 members, no restrictions on instrumentation)

Participants will be evaluated by a jury appointed by the organizer, consisting of Polish and international music professors, instrumentalists, and conductors. The jury will select winners in each category and age group. Prizes will be awarded to the winners!

The competition is held under the patronage of the Mayor of Toruń, Paweł Gulewski, and its partners include: Felix Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, YAMAHA, Polish Music Publishing House, Polish Centre of Music Information POLMIC, and przesłuchania.com.
