From March 25–27, 2025, the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław will host the 17th International Conference “Traditions of Silesian Musical Culture”. This year’s edition, titled “At the Crossroads of European Routes”, will be an event of particular international significance, aligning with the period of Poland’s presidency in the European Union. The event will include two exceptional concerts as an integral part.
The aim of the conference is to internationally promote the unique musical heritage of Silesia and emphasize the significance of Wrocław as one of the key centers of musical culture in Europe. Its rich musical heritage combines centuries-old traditions with modern trends in contemporary art. The event will provide an opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and inspiration among scholars, artists, and the public. The conference will bring together researchers and artists from Poland and Europe. Among the speakers will be Thomas Ertelt, Tomasz Jeż, Gesine Schröder, and Remigiusz Pośpiech. The inaugural lecture will be given by Prof. Artur Błażejewski, an archaeologist and Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Wrocław.
After the first day of the conference, on March 25 at 7:00 PM, the Academy’s Concert Hall will host a piano recital by Charlotte Steppes, a young German pianist. The second event, the New Music Concert, will take place on March 26 at 7:00 PM. The concert will feature works by composers associated with the Department of New Media and the Computer Composition Studio. The concert will include compositions by renowned artists, including Cezary Duchnowski and Marcin Rupociński.
The event will culminate in a scientific publication summarizing the achievements of the participants, which will be released in 2026.
The honorary patronage of the project has been granted by Prof. Krystian Kiełb, the Rector of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music.
