World Premiere of a Composition Awarded at the Szymanowski Composition Competition
On March 1 and 2, 2016 the Karol Szymanowski Academic Symphony Orchestra under Maciej Tomasiewicz will give a premiere performance of Fili di Perle (Strings of Pearls) by Jonathan Posthuma (USA), which received 3rd prize at the 2nd Karol Szymanowski International Composition Compeition in 2015.

Jonathan Posthuma (b. 1989) currently lives in Saint Paul, Minnesota as a freelance composer and is completing his Masters in Music Composition at the University of Wisconsin – Madison where he studies with Stephen Dembski and Laura Schwendinger. He received his Bachelors in Secondary Music Education: Choral and Instrumental from Dordt College, where he studied composition privately with Luke Dahn. His music includes music for theatre, ballet, and film, as well as chamber music, works for choirs, orchestras, and bands, with an emphasis on vocal music. His music has been performed at SCI Regional Festivals, the Manchester New Music Festival, and the Rural Art Song Competition. His music for "The Glass Menagerie" was honored by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival at the national level and his "Five Studies for Piano (Two Pencils and a Hymnbook)" for prepared piano received the 2011 BMI Student Composer Award.
