Piotr Moss’s oratorio Sueños will be performed for the first time in a newly revised version in Colombia — on July 19, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the Auditorium Compensar in Bogotá.
The work is the result of a creative collaboration between composer Piotr Moss and Polish conductor Zbigniew Zając, who has been active in Colombia, and is deeply inspired by Colombian folk music. After an article about the Colombian gaita was published in Ruch Muzyczny in 1987 (issue no. 19), Piotr Moss reached out to Zbigniew Zając to request recordings of compositions featuring this traditional instrument. Inspired by the artistry of folk musician Toño Hernandez, a master of the gaita, Moss composed Sueños, an oratorio for choir, orchestra, mezzo-soprano, and gaita. The work premiered in 1991 during the 2nd Festival of Contemporary Music in Bogotá, conducted by Zbigniew Zając.
In 2025, the composer completed a new version of the piece, which will be presented in three performances in Colombia:
- July 19 – Bogotá, Auditorium Compensar
- July 20 – La Palma, Cundinamarca
- July 26 – Auditorium Multiple, Cajicá, Cundinamarca
The performances will feature Colombian mezzo-soprano Laura Mosquera, gaita player Erica Peralta, the Flor de Cerezo folk ensemble, Sociedad Coral, and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Bogotá, all under the baton of Zbigniew Zając.
