World premiere of "Sinfonietta concertante" by Mikołaj Piotr Górecki in Cracow

During the third edition of the “Sinfonietta Nova” project, in which musicians from Sinfonietta Cracovia join forces with artists from the sister ensemble, London Sinfonietta – one of the leading groups specializing in contemporary music – two world premieres will take place on October 20, 2024, at 5:00 PM. The works by Mikołaj Piotr Górecki and David Gompper will be performed under the baton of Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak, the artistic director of Sinfonietta Cracovia, in the heart of Cracow's Nowa Huta district – at the Łaźnia Nowa Theatre.

The evening will begin with the premiere of Górecki's Sinfonietta concertante for wind quintet and string orchestra, a piece written this year on commission from Sinfonietta Cracovia as part of the "Composer Commissions" program, carried out by the National Institute of Music and Dance. The unique sound of this premiere will be enhanced by the participation of the Cracow Wind Quintet, which has been performing in Poland and abroad for over 25 years.

The Polish premiere will feature Cello Concerto (2019) by American composer David Gompper, with Tim Gill, principal cellist of both the London Sinfonietta and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, as the soloist.

This exceptional concert of premieres will culminate in the work The Centre is Everywhere by British composer Edmund Finnis, allowing the audience to feel almost as if they are at the center of the universe.

The concert is realized in collaboration with Polish Music Publishing House (PWM) as part of the TUTTI.pl program, which promotes the performance of Polish music. The publisher of Mikołaj Piotr Górecki’s works is PWM.

The concert is co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance as part of the "Musician in Residence" program, funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Violinist Kornelia Polańska will participate in the concert.

Funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund as part of the "Composer Commissions" program, carried out by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
