Wroclaw | 'Star of Europe' concerts dedicated to Edith Stein

POLMICMedia patronage: Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC

By the decision of the City Council of Wrocław, 2022 is the Year of Edith Stein, known as St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, patroness of Europe. Her memory will be honored by, among others 'Star of Europe' concerts between the 6th and the 29th of August performed by soloists, the NFM Choir and the Wrocław Baroque Ensemble conducted by Andrzej Kosendiak, which will take place in Gliwice, Lubliniec, Wrocław, Oświęcim and the Dutch town of Echt.

A European who loves her German homeland and at the same time suffers from the Nazi regime. Jewish and Christian, a clear sign for people looking for the truth and a symbol of understanding between nations and religions.

Edith Stein was associated with Wrocław, because it was in the capital of Lower Silesia that she was born in 1891 and here she spent her teenage years. She died tragically on the 9th of August, 1942 in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

Co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
